Visiting Machu Picchu with Kids

During our visit to Peru, we got to experience
tons of incredible adventures. But no trip to Peru can be considered complete
without first looking down upon the incredible ancient city of Machu Picchu. We boarded the train at Ollantaytambo Station
for the 1-and-a-half-hour journey on Peru Rail to Machu Picchu Station. The train ride offered incredible views of
the river and mountains, and even the starting point for those hiking the famous Inca Trail
to Machu Picchu. We arrived in Machu Picchu Pueblo and wandered
through the markets and town before catching a bus up the winding mountain trail for a
25-minute drive to the entrance to the ruins. The visit to the ruins of Machu Picchu starts
with a climb up through the cloud forest that some smaller children might need a hand with,
but when we got to the first view point it was everything that we had hoped for and more. Strolling around Machu Picchu was a blast
for the whole family. There are a lot of stairs, but the maze-like
streets make for some great games of hide and seek. The ruins also made for the perfect place
for some of the boy’s favorite games, like climbing rocks, chasing grasshoppers, catching
glimpses of the local Viscachis and of course … chasing Llamas. Just watch out for those Llamas. They act like they own the place!
