Terrace Trail on the Fishlake National Forest in Utah

So we’re on the East end of Boulder Mountain,
today, and we’re just off of Highway 12. We’re going to go ride the Terrace Trail. Behind us is Boulder Mountain. Boulder Mountain is the highest plateau in
the lower 48 states. It’s about 10,600ft and the Terrace Trail
goes just below that rim, so we’re going to ride up that terrace and ride across it. We’re just South of the town of Torrey and
we’re just North of the town of Boulder, on Highway 12. We’re right by the Wildcat Information Center. So if you’re going to come up to this area
and do some hiking or playing around, you could stop at the Wildcat Visitors Center
and they will give you all the information you need on what trails and maps and get you
all the information you need. So we’re on the East end of Boulder Mountain,

So, at the Wildcat Visitors Center there’s a bathroom and a rest area, and then just
to the West of that is this parking area right here by the old Meadow Guard Station.
If you were going to ride horses, this is where you could come and park your trailer
and get ready for the ride. So, the Terrace Trail is about a 7-mile loop.
You hit the Wildcat Trail, then the Terrace Trail, then the Pleasant Creek Trail.
What we’re going to see is we’re going to be on a terrace just below the rim of Boulder
Plateau. You’ll pass through some aspens, through
some open meadows. Make sure to look for the trail markers to
get from one end of the meadow to the next. You’ll have great views of Capital Reef
National Park and the Henry Mountains. There are spectacular views.
So, if you encounter horses on the trail, make sure you yield to the horses.
Horses are a prey species, so they think a mountain biker might be the same as a mountain
lion. So make sure you talk to the rider, say “hello”,
make sure the horse knows that you’re a person.
It’s best if you can step to the downhill side of the trail, and yield way to the horses.
So, the Terrace Trail is part of a complex of non-motorized trails on the East end of
Boulder, and it’s well worth your time if you’re passing over Highway 12 to stop and
check out some of these great non-motorized trails.
